![]() One of my latest travels took me to Falmouth Jamaica during a cruise. I had not yet been to this port of call and was excited to experience what it had to offer. The first thing I notice upon arrival is that the port is really built up for those guests that just want to get off the ship for a few hours and really do some port shopping and relax. Since this is a relatively new port of call it is still growing. It is half way between Ocho Rios & Montego Bay. Most of the natural attractions are located closer to these locations so guests that cruise to this port can expect a 30-40 minutes transfer to any main attractions. On this day in port I opted to use of our preferred on-locations (Glamour Destination Mgmt.) for a full day tour. We met our driver outside of the gates of the port and off we went. The nice thing about having a private tour is you are in control of your day. If your guide knows of something special going on they usually will let you know about it or if an attraction is particularly busy they will guide you in a different direction until later. We enjoyed a private tour of Falmouth and then headed to the Rio Bueno River to go kayaking. Highly recommend bug spray! I completely forgot it and really paid for it! The beauty of the river was stunning and we had a great time kayaking. After that our guide recommended we drive down toward Ocho Rios and enjoy a lunch with authentic Jerk Chicken! He took us to roadside restaurant called Scotchies. They cook the chicken on the Pimento wood right where you order. We enjoyed Jerk Chicken, Roasted Potatoes, Breadfruit and Festival. We would have never experienced this on our own. We learned so much about Jamaica and their culture that day because we were able to ask our driver just about anything. He was so gracious and kind that we felt he was part of our family by the end of the day. If you are traveling to Jamaica, be sure to let us arrange a private day tour. You will not be disappointed.
